About the road traffic office of the district of Leer

With 60,000 visitors a year, the Road Traffic Office, which has been outsourced from the district hall to the Ringstraße in Leer, is the busiest part of the district administration.

The registration office takes care of the registration and deregistration of vehicles, allocates short-term license plates or registers technical changes. The employees at the driving license office are the contact persons for issuing, withdrawing and exchanging driving licenses. The Road Traffic Office is also responsible for processing around 50,000 warnings and fines per year for traffic violations.

Traffic regulation and control measures such as signage for roadworks and events on the roads, passenger transport and large and heavy goods vehicles are handled in the Ringstrasse.

Baseline situation

To enable citizens of the district of Leer to pay their fees at the road traffic office without the need for an employee, the district administration relied for a long time on a conventional automatic pay station.

Although this had all the necessary payment functions, it had a decisive shortcoming in terms of security: The aging machine did not contain a safe that could securely store the money deposited.

The unfortunate consequence: a break-in at the district's road traffic office, which ended with the forcible opening of the old cash machine and the unauthorized removal of the money storage.

Solution

In order to establish not only a quick and easy, but also a secure payment option in the district administration, the district administrator decided in 2015 to invest in the HESS MultiPay 800, a powerful and secure alternative.

Since then, the deposited cash flows directly into an integrated safe, which automatically keeps deposited amounts under lock and key at various security levels and can only be opened using the dual control principle.

In addition to its intuitive operation, the HESS MultiPay 800 scores points with its comprehensive hardware and software concept, with which the district administration can automate all deposits and withdrawals in an audit-proof manner.

"The HESS MultiPay 800 combines all the needs of the road traffic office with regard to the payment of fees. The fact that the pay station is also hard to beat when it comes to security makes us feel all the better," explains Birgit Heine-Lange, Head of Road Safety and Driving Licenses at the Leer District Road Traffic Office.
